Winter Driving Tips

Here’s a handy list of tips to help you get through winter’s worst.

1. Check your tires.

This one might seem obvious, but while most vehicles are pre-equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems, not all vehicles are. Making sure you have sufficient pressure and adequate tread on your tires is key to handling slippery road conditions.

2. Manage your Cruise Control.

Cruise Control is a great feature to have, but we recommend avoiding it in wet, icy, and cold, snowy conditions, as it’s key to maintaining complete control of acceleration and deceleration.

3. Avoid skidding.

Try to avoid accelerating, decelerating, or steering too sharply in wet winter road conditions. If your vehicle does start to skid, gently lift off the accelerator and turn into the direction of the skid to steer clear and stay grounded.

4. Stay off the worst roads.

This one goes without saying, but sometimes we all need a reminder. No errand or trip is worth risking your life for. If a winter advisory is in effect in your area or conditions just seem a tad too rough, push off wherever it is you need to go for a later time when the weather tapers off and road conditions improve. That quick trip to the grocery is just not worth getting into an accident over.
